Card of the Month:April 2010

May 2nd, 2010

The Card of the Month, almost obvious at which one it would be is Emrakul, the Aeons Torn!

This is One Huge Eldrazi! It is better than the Shards of Allara Block’s big creature Progenitus and easier to play some may say.

It Cannot be countered which makes it great against Blue decks.

Take an Extra turn?! Hello thats a 15/15 attacking with Annihilator 6 that cannot be blocked!

Flying so your Eldrazi cannot block it.

Protection from colored spells…So you need a flying artifact to kill it. Or you need a Wrath Variant, so its still killable but…

When it is put into the graveyard from anywhere shuffle it back into its owners Library…

This card is planly unkillable! Once your opponent has it out you either Final Judgment:

Or your probably going to lose as you have usually 1 turn maybe if your lucky 2 turns to win the game.

It is safe to say that Emrakul is the Biggest and Baddest Eldrazi Around, sure it costs 15 mana but the Eldrazi Decks are all Mana Exel so 15 mana is not too hard to get. Especially with Eldrazi Spawn the little 0/1′s that can sack for mana.

But even with all this Emrakul is not a card you just throw into any deck and hope you get it out. Even though it is Colorless and cooly not an artifact, it shouldn’t be throw into your Goblins deck just so you hope you get it out. You either need to build a deck around it or throw it into a deck you have that can get 15 mana easy.

And yes Emrakul was the Promo Card for the Prerelease of Rise of the Eldrazi.

Well thats all for now, remember to Comment and Vote!

Card of the Month for: December 2009

January 11th, 2010

Thats it NEW YEAR! I hope you all have a happy new year and I left this poll open because of last months messup. I though it deserves 3 weeks insted of 2.

Now for the card we had a verry close game. So close actually:

By one vote!

This card wasn’t celebrated for being good until just recently when poeple started figuring out how to use it in some decks.

Eldrazi Monument was about $5

Now it is $7.75

It is obviously great in a token deck but some poeple don’t look to deep into it. If your playing standard you could use Bloodghast in a landfall deck with this.

Eldrazi won over Emeris because the monument  won a couple of tornements increasing its popularity just enough to have in win over shields.

And in my opinion Eldrazi Monument is better than Akroma’s memorial:

Mainly for the fact that Eldrazi makes all your creatures indestructable and costs 2 less. Even though Eldrazi has its obviously bad effect if the deck is built around it or thrown into a good token deck its effect can be negated.

Also if you dont already know Eldrazi is in the name of the Zendikar block’s 3rd set. Rise of Eldrazi and the possible return of merit lage. Look here to read more.

Thanks for ready and remember to vote for this months CoM

Card of the Month: August 2009

September 9th, 2009

Swinging into first place this month is lighting bolt.  The lovly spell that leaves your opponent smoking on the ground…(or a summoned creature). Also Lightning bolt is taken out of DnD another game that Wizards of the Coast made.

lightning_bolt

Lighting bolt= About $1.25

This card should be in all (ok almost all) red decks. It is a card that can change the outcome of a game. Having 4 of thies in your deak means that you can deal 12 damage divided by 3 to any creature or player. Take out a captian of the watch or an annoying plainswalker.

Heres a few decks that you can throw a lightning bolt (it is a common) into:

Burn decks

Tribal decks

Mono red decks

creatureless decks

and a few others.

A few knock off lighting bolts are:

Strafe

Strafe

Lava Spike

LavaSpike

Not as good…ok not nearly as good they have “hidden ties” like Strafe that means you almost need to side board it, and Lava spike is great for just hurting your enemy but if its in your hand when you need to keep a creature (I have had this a few times). You go: *sigh* I need a *** **** lighting bolt. I swear it always seems to be the next card.

Thats all about lighting bolt but its time for you to Vote for the next CoM if you havnt done so already!

Card of the month for: June 2008

July 18th, 2009

The card of the month for June 2009 is Maelstrom Pulse!

92

This card is great for any type of gameplay. From standard to extended and casual to limited.  This card is a great game turner. Any card you want dead will probobly be able to be killed with this card it can get ride of that annoying angel or that stupid demon. But as you can see above it can also get ride of all decks that use only one card to “finish the job”.

And never forget it can even kill a plainswalker so if someones going to use Chandras finnal then they have another thing comming.

It is an enhanced Vindicate

Vindicate

Poeple like Pulse alot better because of the colors ,multiple targets and it is in standard.  Both cards are expensive…

Vindicate: $15

Pulse: $20

Both cards don’t have any “specific” deck they could be used in but both will work in any deck.

I am posting this halfway through the month because there was a tie so half the month was spent for the tie breaker. And dont forget to vote for CoM July 2009!

Card of the Month: May 2009

June 2nd, 2009

Well this was a good Poll with a lot of poeple participating!

card-of-the-month-june-2009

As you see the card of the month was Sen Triplets…

sentriplets

Now this card is an amazing card! It has the ability to steal cards from your opponent. Do you know how annoying that is? Trust me I sadly know.-yes I do have the card it rocks-

Whats so good ok what if my opponent is playing off color(s)?

Sen Triplets (ill say sen for short) is 3 colors white blue black. Alot of people play with deaks that consist of white and black and blue is sadly not played so much in standard.  Also most poeple will put this in thier domain deck -That’ll hurt- or they will throw in a few Grix illutionist or another card that turns a land into the basic land type of your choice!

Sen is a great card in many ways. A 3/3 with an effect usually costs 4 w/o including how good the effect is! Amazingly sen’s effect only counts as 1 extra mana helping the chances of playing it greatly!

Well thats all for now theres really isnt too much to write about with this card…But still please vote on our polls and the next card of the month post will be in…1 month!

Card of the month for: April 2009

May 1st, 2009

Not surprisingly exploding into #1 on the poll is BANEFIRE!

If you dont know what banefire is well… Just look at the picture:

banefire6

Banefire is one of thoes $10 rares that you just have so much fun playing. It is in a combonation with Appocolypse Hydra and  Martial Coup. All three cards have X abilities and if they pay 5 or more they get a great effect! Here are the other two:

apocalypsehydra1

martialcoup

Ok back to banefire. Banefire is a great card and works well in any red deck. You can play it for 3 to kill a creature (not recommended) or you can pay it for 6 and smash that big naya creature or the oppoenent with it. Counter deck have absolutly no effect on it which is verry nice. Also it is just deadly in a stale mate game when you have 10 mana out adleast and send it shooting at your oppoent for 9 and the win…

Vertually Banefire is an upgrade from Blaze:

blaze2

Dont get me wronge Blaze in nice but it might get dropped out of standard if not reprinted in 11th. Sure Blaze is only worth about $1 but it can still be used to annoy your oppoenent. Just if your agenst a counter deck which has strengthend in Alara reborn you really cant do much.

Also Banefire goes great with double the damage cards like Wound Reflection.

That makes the banefire become a nice 10 damage that cannot be prevented or counterd.

Banefire doesnt have the dividing ability like Fire ball but then agian Fireball can easily be counterd… (like in Jace Vs Chandra)

fireball

If you open a Banefire in a pack you are crazy not to put it into a deck that has red that you own… Unless of corse you trading it for an Appocolypse Hydra. Ok DONT BE LIKE CALVIN DO NOT TRADE IT FOR AN APPOCOLYPSE HYDRA_BAD BAD TRADE!

-And I will post about the release tommorow I have a feeling I will get somewhat lucky!

Card of the month for: March 2009

April 1st, 2009

Progenitus, That was a slap in the face…

Well I love progenitus but lets learn how to say it first. Calvin and I  got into a “fight” about it and then I relized that he was right. It is called:

Pro-gen-ei-tus

This is how I was saying it befor THIS IS NOT HOW YOU SAY IT. Prog-ni-tus.

Well enough of that Progenitus is a strong card Evryone loves him a 10/10 that if put into your library shuffle into your deck and it has protection from everything. Many people wont get this joke but What is better than a 11/11 that cant die? A 10/10 thats unblockable and cant die!

progenitus2

Its and uber version of this:
darksteel_colossus

Progenitus had almost all pros when compared to this card: It is impervious to evrything, A Unmake cant kill it, It has the same effect but it is also unblockable…So the only resons you shouldnt use progenentus compared to this card is its a 10/10 with a crazy mana cost.

So heres the pros and cons of Progenitus,

Pros: Unblokable,Cannot die,Cannot be targeted,Nothing deals it damage,Vertually no way to remove it from play,…10/10?, ITs in standerd…for now.

Cons:It costs 2 of each color to play, you need a deck based on getting this card out if you actually want to use it, Some porple prefer door to nothingness.

To destroy Progenitus:

Play wrath of god decent way but that dosnt kill him

 15401

Damnation same as wrath of god

 damnation3

Final Judgement BEST WAY (not standard) but great compleatly kills it.

final_judgment

Now some poeple say that playing Progenitus is way to dang hard BBUUTT what if you dont play it normally…See where we are going?

My DECK I made an AMAZING deck. It uses Natural order, Elven piper, and Dramatic entrance. I have many other ways but thoes are just the easiest ways.

elvishpiper

dramatic_entrance

pic

I still like Door to nothingness better =)

Card of the Month for February 2009: Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker

March 1st, 2009

Zach is on a ski trip this weekend, so I’m going to be posting the card of the month today. I’m not surprised that Nicol Bolas won.

nicol-bolas-planeswalker5

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is considered to be worse than Cruel Ultimatum, which it probably is, in tournment play. It isn’t green, so you don’t have mana acccel. It isn’t white, so it isn’t as easy to protect it. It is blue, so you can coounter any burn spells aimed at it. It is black, so you can return it from your graveyard to your hand. It is red, so you can burn anything that threatens it.

Once Nicol Bolas is in play, someone is in big trouble. There’s nothing anyone can do about it if you keep the mana open to counter any instants or sorceries that would destroy it, burn any creatures that try to attack it, and feed Nicol Bolas your opponent’s lands and planeswalkers for breakfast. (It even gets +3 for doing that!) Once it has 9 or more counters, if you can use its ultimate, you will probably win. You opponent is going to lose life and permanents and discard his hand, and Nicol Bolas is going to sit there laughing evily while he does it. Next turn, Nicol Bolas can eat more lands for breakfast, and start the cycle over again.

The biggest problem you face with a Nicol Bolas deck is to stay alive until turn 8. If you can get around that, and can play Nicol Bolas and keep him safe, you should win quickly. You need cards that will make tokens, because those are what will give you huge amounts of creatures that you can use to block. Use a mix of flying tokens and big creatures and you’ll be fine. When Nicol Bolas comes out, he’s in danger right away. He could get countered or burned right away, and if you’ve played him turn 8 there’s not much you can do about it. If you can keep him alive long enough for him to eat a land/enchantment/noncreature artifact/planeswalker, he will probably survive the turn. After that, don’t play anything else unless it’s neseccary. Keep your mana open to counter or burn any threats. You should win that game.

Here’s the poll for March of 2009 (It only displays properly if you open the post page by clicking the post title. If you’re looking at it from the home page, it’s not going to work.):

Displayed: What should be the card of the month for March 2009

  • Progenitus (26%, 71 Votes)
  • Banefire (24%, 65 Votes)
  • Noble Hierarch (22%, 60 Votes)
  • Appocolypse Hydra (11%, 30 Votes)
  • Sarkhan Vol (9%, 24 Votes)
  • Tezzert the Seeker (8%, 18 Votes)

Card of the Month for January 2009

February 1st, 2009

<Image will be added>

The card of the month is Elspeth, Knight-Errant, The best plainswalker ever.

This plainswalker is from shards of alara and is the only kick *** plainswalker to have all + abilities!

If you want to pump up your creatures you can use the second +1 effect and give a creature +3/+3 and flying to be game for Big Game Hunter. (when big game hunter comes into play destroy target creature with power 4 or more.) You could also just pump up your already strong exalted attacking creature too! You could use the conflux card Asha’s Favor and help the creature even more!

Or you could use the first +1 abiltiy and put a 1/1 blocker into play. If you have an exalted deck then you have a 1/1 the you can attack with and not care if you loose it or not!

Lastly you can use the amazing -8 effect and give all your already amazing exalted cards and evrything else (but plainswalkers) indestructable…               INDESTRUCTABLE!!!!!!!! I’ts insane!?!?! How can poeple compeat agenst that unless you have alot of unmakes noone can really do anything…Unless they have unblockable…

So now you know why this card was the card of the month for January 2009!!!!!!

Card of the Month for: Nov 2008

December 1st, 2008

Sweaping in as the winner of the 2008 November Card of the month, It surly surprised me but I wont argue with the votes. With the wining vote of 13 beating the competition by 3 points is with no ferther delay… Nicol Bolas!

This amazing dragon has lived since the dawn of time. I think it is the smartest and best dragon to use in a discarding deck or just to mess with your opponent. Its not as AMAZing as a shivan dragon or as cheap as a dragon welp but its worth it.

Printed in 4 sets.

Chronicals, Legends, time spiral

 Or the COOOLEST looking one:

 FtV……Dragons

Some obvious combos with this card!

Who dosnt like a giant 7/7 flier with opponents hand is screwed? I sure like it but lets enhance that hand effect…:

Ha,Ha a 7/7 unblockable opponent can do nothing about it. A few turns with this out and there dead…Unless they have a card that says put a 1/1 saproling creature token blocking target creature. Yes I looked it up and yes it does work! Hmm what is this card its:

WA—BAM! Its always joyous to see the look on there face… Sorry I got side traced but this is a great card to counter a great combo.

This is all I have to write about for now about this card of the month but please VOTE for the next card of the month… Im not going to be like calvin and put the Poll down in the post and have it not work (agian)

Ps: Calvin I still havnt gotten my with of BoP to win o well  I have been voting for it…

Pss: (Yes I love birds)

Zach, you messed this post up. Actually, Sarkhan Vol won by 3 votes, not Nicol Bolas. Second, you forgot to open December’s poll. (Don’t worry about that, I opened the poll.) Third, the Saproling can’t block Nicol Bolas because it doesn’t have flying.
EDIT: OK, I got that one wrong. It says clearly in Gatherer that it can block creatures with flying!

-Calvin
