More random Conflux cards.

December 30th, 2008

9 more Conflux cards have now been spoiled. Here’s the source.

1: Obelisk of Alara

obelisk-of-alara

This is a good card! It can change the course of the game, in your favor, if you play it. Gaining 5 life every turn is not something to laugh at. 3 damage every turn also isn’t something to laugh at. If you’re in a situation where it’s impossible to attack, this can deal the final blow to your opponent.

2: Sedraxis Alchemist

sedraxis-alchemist1

This can be a good card, if you can find a way to use it. It isn’t a card that’s automatically going to help you in every deck that can play it.

Card 3: Noble Hiearch

noble-hiearch1

This card is almost the same as Birds of Paradise, but it is different because it has exalted instead of flying, and only produces Bant colors. Of course, its exalted means it can attack if you need it to, and it’s the only thing attacking.

Card 4: Fusion Elemental

fusion-elemental1

This is an 8/8 for 5. If you have a 5-color deck, you will want to play this. Especially if you have Obelisk of Alara, also, because you can make it a 12/12 every turn!

Card 5: Glitspire Avenger

giltspire-avenger

Is Bant having a civil war against itself? This card is in Bant, but it is also a very good card to use against Bant!

Card 6: Fiery Fall

fiery-fall1

5 damage isn’t anything new, but this also has basic landcycling. If you are getting mana screwed, you can use this to find more mana, otherwise you can use it to kill one of your opponent’s creatures.

Card 7: Extractor Demon

extractor-demon

This card is useful in a booster draft deck, when you will be playing with 40-card decks. It will also be useful if you are using an Esper deck with Scourglass, Wrath of God, or any deck with Damnation. It also works well with Cruel Ultimatum.

Card  8: Exploding Borders

exploding-borders1

This is another Domain card. Use it in a Naya deck or a Jund deck to search for a basic land type you don’t controll, but is in your deck, for an extra damage point.

Card 9: Esperzoa

esperzoa

Return an artifact that costs 1 to play to your hand every turn, so that you only need to pay 1 mana to keep this in play.

Random Conflux cards (No card images…)

December 28th, 2008

I have a few of the cards from Conflux. These were spoiled by MTGSalvation. There are no card images.

There are 10 cards today, at least 6 more in my next post.. They won’t be going into the Preview Cards page, because there is no image. They were all taken from the spoiler, and created in MSE by me.

Card 1: Path to Exile

path-to-exile

This card is very powerful. You can remove a Godsire from the game, for one mana. If your opponent has enough mana to play Godsire, you don’t have to worry about the extra mana you just gave him. Or, you can use it on your one-drop on the second turn, and get an extra mana for yourself. Or, you  can play a token creator, create a token, and remove it from the game for an extra mana.

Cards 2-6: Valeron Outlander, Vedalken Outlander, Zombie Outlander, Goblin Outlander, and Nactal Outlander

 valeron-outlander

vedalken-outlander1

zombie-outlander

goblin-outlander

nactal-outlander

I’m reviewing the Outlander cycle all at the same time. These cards are 2-drops that you will probably be able to play second turn, if you have your mana curve right. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from playing 2 different outlanders in 1 deck that only has one shard. (Meaning in a Jund deck, you can play Goblin and Zombie outlander.) That is probably what the cycle was made for, because Conflux is about the shards coming together. Also, Vedalken Outlander is an artifact, if you didn’t notice that yourself. MSE doesn’t have the new colored artifacts graphics. EDIT 12/29: Actually, MSE does have the colored artifacts graphics!

Card 7: Might of Alara

might-of-alara

Domain is now a keyword. This is a reprint of Gaea’s Might. This theme encourages 5-color decks.

Card 8: Exotic Orchard

exotic-orchard

Now you have to hope your opponent is using a 5-color deck, because if he is,  you can produce mana of any of the 5 colors.  If your opponent is in a color that you’re not playing, you can still use the mana to pay colorless mana costs.

Cards 8-10: Specter of Insight, Specter of Fugue, Specter of Dominance

specter-of-insight

specter-of-fugue

specter-of-dominance

For 2 mana, you can make sure your opponent can’t get more cards for the rest of the game! You can also tap one of his permanents, or draw an extra card every turn.

December 27th, 2008

Hi its Zach I’m waiting for the last effect of Bol to come out so I can make a bigpost wow Bol makes playing agenst Grix a bad thing =D.

Ok well As stated I got three more mythics. Calvin and I want to friday night magic . It was fun I opend to Mayael the Anima on my third pack i was going jund and I found out that Drafting and prerealeses are alot diffrent. but making a 40 card deck is a good idea and using red is your best bet! What was funny is that the person nect to me who I would pass to was playing naya.

card175058

Now I bought for packs thier and I was talking about Hellkite Overlord with calvin and it would be funny IF I GOT ONE… I opend up all my packs made them into a pile and looked at the rares. The last pack would u look at that was a HellKite Overlord!

card175057

Now the last one I dont remember what I traded I got the better part of the deal it was 2 rares nothing much just a Sedris, the Traitor King it would be nice if I get a Bol!

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker partial card

December 24th, 2008

I won’t be posting tomorrow, so Merry Christmas!  Today I have some very important news for Conflux.

We now know most of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. The only thing missing is the 3rd ability and the starting loyalty. (The 3rd ability loyalty cost is known.) We do know that the third ability will be either a choice between two abilities, or two abilities at the same time. Here is what we have so far. (Wording might be wrong.) MTGS Confirmation

Remember that this is what I made in MSE, and the wording might not be exact. I will edit this as more info. comes out, and when the card is previewed on magicthegathering.com, I will show you the actual card.

nicol-bolas-planeswalker-most

+3: Destroy target noncreature permanent!!?!?!?!?! This will completly destroy any other planeswalker that has the bad luck of being on the field when you play this, and it will also destroy your opponent’s lands better than Ajani! Also, it gives +3!

-2: Gain control of target creature!!! Now your opponent’s bes creature is yours for good!

-9: What? On Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker a -9 ability. What could this mean? (Other than the end of the game, with you as the winner.) We’ll find out on January 19, 2009.

Please, leave comments about what you think the -9 ability will be. Remember that there are 2 abilities, with either an and or an or inbetween them.

Now you can write comments for us on the post, instead of clicking it. It makes comments much easier. You still have to click on the post to read the comments, but that’s not as bad. If you leave a comment, you should check it once a day, because I do reply to comments.

Conflux Reprints

December 21st, 2008

Hello! Today, I have the cards that we know will be reprinter in Conflux. There are only 4 reprints in Conflux. (These are also the first Conflux Cards.) I am also now reopeaning the preview cards page for Conflux.

Card 1: Mana Cylix

mana_cylix

This card has existed for 8 years, and will be reprinted for the first time in Conflux. This card is good if you have a multicolored deck, which most people do in Shards of Alara.

Card 2: Maniacal Rage

maniacal_rage

This card will obviously go on creatures that you wouldn’t block with anyway. (Like Hellkite Overlord, or any creature that already can’t block or that attacks each turn if able.

Card 3: Unsummon

unsummon

This card is a classic, and it’s being reprinted just in time to escape rotating out of standard with 10th edition.

Card 4: Worldly Counsel

worldly_counsel

Could this signal the return of the Domain theme? This card is another card that will work well in a 5-color deck, if you use basic lands.

Free cards from Wizards of the Coast?

December 20th, 2008

Hello! In the mail today, I got 2 preconstructed decks from WOTC. I never bought them, and it looks like the weren’t given to me as a Christmas gift. Zach thinks they’re a bonus for having a DCI card. That is possible, but it looks like the decks were made for beginners. It’s really only a bunch of commons and uncommons, and 13 basic lands each. Even combined, it’s not something you would want to play with, but I combined them and tested it against one of my worse decks, and it lost, unsurprisingly. (It might have partly been because I had out a 14/13 with flying, indestructible, and exalted.) The decks, combined would be a good way to get into the game, but they won’t be winning any tournaments. If anyone knows how to get these, or why I got these, please comment or email me. Blog problems?

December 18th, 2008

Are you having any problems looking at this blog? If you are, can you please send us an email at czmtgblog@gmail.com. I’ve been having a few problems viewing the blog in the past day or two. I hope to write a post within the next few days. I haven’t had the time to post, and today I wasn’t able to access the blog until now. It seems to have fixed itself, but I can’t look at the blog from less modern computers.

I went into the city (NYC) a few days ago and went to neutral ground and bought a tortement pack. I got ANOTHER mythic rare. I got ajani vengent! I could care less but its a mythic rare so im happy. O ya I also say the gray-matter guy that runs the gray-matter prerealeses. Hes a nice guy and I saw him when I was walking out. But the bad twist CALVIN THERE CLOSING!!!!!(lowers head) There closing on the 27th I want to go on the 26th because evrything was 25% off when I went before I wonder what deals I’m going to get when I get there. (And for that trade I was able to make a foil deck where 41 out of 60 cards where foils and its actually good I crippled your white deck and got cool card in the prossess and I really got the better deaal I traded two bad cards for two good rares and 45 foils only 2 where lands)

And im thinking about making a new type of card like the creature plainswalkers only something else…

11th Edition

December 15th, 2008

Hello! Short post today, because there isn’t much to tak about. There were two important peices of news revealed at Worlds today. First, 11th edition will be black bordered. This continues the tradition started in 10th edition of core sets becoming more like expansion sets. Second, 11th will have mythic rares, and possibly even planeswalkers. These will most likely be reprints, unless 11th is the first core set printed with new cards. That brings up the question: What? Something that isn’t tied to one set, of course. Hellkite Overlord could easily be reprinted, but if it is, that would make it the third time in less than a year that it is printed, which I think will be avoided. Third, although this doesn’t have anything to with 11th edition, when Duel of the Planeswalkers, for Xbox 360, comes out, you will get a promotional code if you buy it. (I don’t think you have to preorder it.) When you get this, you can send it to WOTC, on their website, and you will be sent an alternate art foil Garruk Wildspeaker. (In the mail, of course.)
