Many new M10 cards

June 28th, 2009

In fact, 220/249 cards in M10 have been spoiled. I can’t post every one of them here, but I have the Visual Spoiler as always. (8.1 MB file) In it, you’ll find every single reprint. In fact, you can find out all 8 cards in the poll through it – but I’m not going to post what they are here because some people do not like to be spoiled. Instead, I’ll just update as Magic Arcana updates. I’m going to post all of the mythic rares today, and over the next few days I will post a few rares each day. (You can still see all of them in the visual spoiler.)

Darksteel Colossus

This is a reprint, so we already know its power. It”s a tournament staple in formats where it is easy to sneak into play

Master of the Wild hunt

Platinum Angel

This creature is surprisingly resistant, lying just out of reach of lightning bolt and having protection from a lot of black’s removal. But the fact that it dies to terminate and costs 7 makes it unlikely that it help prevent you from losing in a tournament. (Although it can result in situations where your life total is at -20 and you’re alive, in casual games)

Protean Hydra

This is another fun casual card. In a casual game, this can become huge.

Sphinx Ambasador

Another casual mythic. (Most mythics are)

Xathrid Demon

M10 Previews, Wrath of God out?

June 25th, 2009

First, here’s the visual spoiler, with all of the known cards so far. (It has some cards not shown here, and they’re all MSE mockups) Second, with the new cards, it seems unlikely that Wrath of God is in M10. There aren’t many sets with more than one full board sweeper.

Bogardan Hellkite

Boggardan Hellkite is back, at mythic rarity this time.

Baneslayer Angel

This is a good card, if you’re a casual player. It’s a lot like any other angel, large with a long list of abilities.

Harms Way

Harm’s Way is another card that can make up for the lack of Wrath of God, along with Silence and the next card. You redirect 2 damage from you to your opponent’s face, or one of their creatures, which can keep you alive one turn longer so that you can, next turn, play:
Planar Cleansing

This gives you a good excuse to play oblivion ring on your own permanents, which would give you a big advantage after this resolves.

Overrun and Giant Growth in M10m Duel Land, Magic Facebook group

June 24th, 2009

As you might have noticed, I’ve been updating the poll, setting the number of votes to 950 or 0 as we know what’s in and out. So far, the poll has guessed correctly 4 times out of 4, or 100%.  Magic has a Facebook group where they’ve been spoiling some cards – two so far. You can view the page here. I have been updating the MSE visual spoiler. You can download that here. Overrun is also going to be in M10, and I also have one duel land image – Drowned Catacomb. Here are all 3 images:

Hi its Zach I’ve fixed the Polls part on the sidebar. You can now vote on all the old Polls that were there and a “new” poll did YOU like the SoA block?

Golden Lotus is fake, Fear not in M10

June 22nd, 2009

The image on Golden Lotus is actually on one of the duel lands. This messes up the card of the month poll. I had to delete the poll and remake it. You can vote again, if you voted in the original poll. Fear, one of the cards printed in every core set until now, is not going to be in M10. This leaves 14 cards, out of which 7 will be in M10. (Nightmare is the eighth.) Also, the polls aren’t working. Only the newest poll is displayed, instead of any that I want displayed. This is a problem with the plugin, not something I can fix. I have compressed my MSE mockups so far into a .zip file that you can download here. This is the first time I’ve done it. Each time I spoil cards, I will include the newest version. Feel free to comment on any of the cards or point out errors if you find any. No, I do not have the arts for the basic lands. I included them because they are in the set.

Lightning Bolt in M10, other preview cards

June 18th, 2009

Lightning Bolt

While this is a MSE mockup, the image is correct. This is an old card that was discontinued because of power level. But now it’s back, dealing 3 damage for one mana. Actually, it is possible that it is going to be uncommon, but it is more likely to be common. Does this mean Counterspell is coming back, too? We’ll see about that.

The Rack

The Rack is back, also. This will be its first time in the new frame, like lightning bolt.

Shivan Dragon

Another classic in M10.

Golden Lotus Fake?

June 12th, 2009

Now there is a possibility that Golden Lotus was a fake card. some people on MTG Salvation are saying it’s fake. I don’t know right now if it is or not, we’ll find out in July.

7 Rules Changes as of M10 + Preview cards

June 11th, 2009

On July 13, 2009, the rules of Magic will change slightly. These are mostly small changes that won’t be noticed, but some are importand. I’ll summarize each one, but if you want to read everything, there are detailed descriptions here.

1.  Simultaneous Mulligans

Starting July 13, mulligans will no longer be taken be one person first, then the other person. Instead, everyone will take announce their mulligans at the same time and take them simultaneously. If you didn’t know that you were supposed to take the mulligans in a certain order, than this won’t affect you at all.

2. Terminology changes

This is a change that won’t affect gameplay at all. In play now is the battlefield, spells that are played are now cast, abilities are activated, cards that are removed from the game are exiled, and abilities that happen at end of turn now happen at the  beginning of the end step. (While things that last until end of turn end after those things)

3. Mana Pools and Mana Burn

Mana burn is gone. Also, mana polls empty after every step and phase, instead of just emptying after every phase.

EDIT: I just realized that this invalidates the poll… I’ll close it now.

4. Token Ownership

Instead of the owner being the person who controlled the effect that put it into play, the owner is now the player whose control it came into play under.

5. Combat Damage No Longer Uses the Stack

This is simple. This eliminates a ton of tricks, and Mog Fanatic is now much less useful. Also, the way multiple blockers are handled has changed. Instead of the attacker assigning damage as s/he chooses, s/he chooses the order in which the creatures receive the damage, and damage is not done to the second creature in line at all until enough damage has been done to he first creature to kill it.

6&7. Lifelink and Deathtouch no longer use the stack

Both of the effects happen as a state-based effect as soon as the damage has been done. This means that if you are at 1, and block a 3/3 with a 2/2 with lifelink, and you let a 1/1 go through, you will not die. Under the old rules, lifelink would go on the stack, but then you would die before it could do anything. Also, 2 instances of lifelink now create only one effect. (For example, under the old rules, if you played Titanic Ultimatum on a rhox war monk, you would gain 14 life from the attack, but now you will only gain 7.)

Now for the preview cards. They are also in the article:

This is the new nonbasic duel land. It looks like Wizards is printing more and more nonbasic land hate, and they actually managed to print nonbasic hate on a nonbasic land with this card. This is probably a cycle of 5 lands with the same effect, only different colors, so this card is actually 5 preview cards in one.

This is a 2/1 with lifelink. Not a big deal.

This card is also not a very big deal, because it’s a 2/2 which will destroy one creature, and one artifact, enchantment, or land.

Any deck with enough skeletons, vampires, and zombies to make this useful will also have enough removal to destroy it as soon as it comes into play.

Lets see…

June 6th, 2009

I’m going to see if I can guess what Timeshifted cards are going to be in Zendikar block and Maybe a few M10(11th edition wizards what are you thinking?!). If you don’t know what Timeshifted cards are they were released in the Future Sight set and they are “sneak peeks” of future sets! Except one card. Ill show you that junk rare in a little bit though.

Now lets check out the new abilities magic is probably going to bring in with the next 4 sets.

barufistofkrosa

One new Keyword is probably going to be Grandeur. Grandeur is on 5 cards in the future sight set I personally think that these cards are going to be in M10. It might be in one of the Zendikar sets bet I’d put my money on M10. Now what Grandeur does is it makes it so that if you have another card of the same name in your hand you can discard it and get a great effect. This one allows you to make a huge wurm creature that will help in almost any deck. The bad part about this is that all Grandeur cards (In future Sight there’s 5) are all rares. So this will be a totally useless card in limited but could make standard get a little more annoying.

Now that is the only Keyword I think that M10 will have. So I might as well tell you the Junk rare now. It is Steamflogger Boss. It was released by Wizards that it is just a 1x card that wont have “supporting cards” to make it a good card. What would be very nice is if they accidentally make some cards to help this card they have don’t it many times in the past and hopefully will do it in the future as well.

steamfloggerboss

Now for a few cards/abilities I think I’ll be in the Zendikar sets.

bladeofthesixthpride

A few cards that have low mana cost and no effect. There are a few in the Future Sight set but they might make more. I wouldn’t really like these cards because, Hey, I’d much rather have a new Exotic effect than a small card.

Now this is going to be fun in limited there are going to be a few “Changing” cards that switch a creature or aura ,etc this is going to be so much fun!

First card,

arcanumwings

See Aura swap this is going to get extremely fun using this card and do I really have to explain what this card would be good at?…no?… Gooood,

Now the next “Change” Card is:

fleshwrither

Now That is a fun card. It says if Zach has one in his zombie deck no one can beat him. Calvin knows my zombie deck works great I don’t always get the 4 mana cards I want like Zombie Warlord (something like that) Or Soulless one. This is just going to get so messed up if they make some more with 3 cards or others…

Now that I’m done with the “Change” Cards they are going to make a few Fortified Lands Check this out…

darksteelgarrison

Now I don’t know if this will be in the Zendikar sets or in a later set like 12 edition or whatever stupid name they call it… Or the set after that I’m not too sure about this card because well you see the Darksteel in the name. Darksteel was a “Keyword” in the darksteel set. Every card with Darksteel in its name was indestructible. I hope they bring this back because this will help against the huge amount of removal that they had in the SoA block.

Remember this is just a list of assumptions that I made. I’m really sure that all thees cards are going to appear in in an extremely soon block/set. Also this isn’t even close to all the cards/effects released in future sight. Please comment on you opinion and I might make another post about this.

EDIT (By Calvin): Zach, it’s spelled Zendikar, not Zandifare. I just went through the entire post fixing it every time, along with all of your other spelling errors. (To readers: If you see any spelling mistakes, leave a comment. Maybe you can get Zach to proofread his posts better than I can.)

Card of the Month: May 2009

June 2nd, 2009

Well this was a good Poll with a lot of poeple participating!

card-of-the-month-june-2009

As you see the card of the month was Sen Triplets…

sentriplets

Now this card is an amazing card! It has the ability to steal cards from your opponent. Do you know how annoying that is? Trust me I sadly know.-yes I do have the card it rocks-

Whats so good ok what if my opponent is playing off color(s)?

Sen Triplets (ill say sen for short) is 3 colors white blue black. Alot of people play with deaks that consist of white and black and blue is sadly not played so much in standard.  Also most poeple will put this in thier domain deck -That’ll hurt- or they will throw in a few Grix illutionist or another card that turns a land into the basic land type of your choice!

Sen is a great card in many ways. A 3/3 with an effect usually costs 4 w/o including how good the effect is! Amazingly sen’s effect only counts as 1 extra mana helping the chances of playing it greatly!

Well thats all for now theres really isnt too much to write about with this card…But still please vote on our polls and the next card of the month post will be in…1 month!
